Colorful Food Cart in Qatar’s Souq Waqif

Not a lot of people have been to Doha, Qatar. That may be because this tiny, thumb-shaped Middle Eastern country is situated on the Persian Gulf between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Right away you can see that its location may be what keeps some people away. However, Doha, Qatar is actually quite exotic, fascinating, welcoming to tourists and also totally safe.

The first time I visited Doha was on New Year’s Eve 2010. Seeing how the Qatari people celebrated this holiday was quite interesting. Most unfortunately, I lost almost all of the photos and videos I took on that visit. I vowed to return another time to see this charming place again and to not lose any photos and videos while doing so.

So just over ten years later, in late February 2020, I returned. This intriguing little city seemed not to have changed much, which was a good thing. My time was easily filled with colorful, exotic and beautiful sights.

During my second visit, I shot this photo at the popular shopping area called Souq Waqif. Look through the center of this empty food cart’s Middle Eastern design and beautiful colors, and you’ll see the shoppers and workers who populate this souq. What I like about this photo is the vivid paint of the food cart in the foreground, which act as a window frame to the normal life of the souq in the background.
